HIPS board, also known as high impact polystyrene board, is a thermoplastic board made by blending and modifying general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) with rubber based elastomers (usually polybutadiene rubber). It retains the characteristics of easy processing and high gloss of polystyrene, while greatly improving its impact resistance through the toughening effect of rubber particles. It is a low-cost and widely applicable universal plastic sheet.
1、 Core performance advantages
High impact toughness, overcoming brittle defects
Compared to brittle general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS), HIPS has a 3-5 fold increase in impact strength at room temperature due to the toughening effect of rubber particles, making it less prone to brittle cracking caused by collisions and drops; It can still maintain a certain degree of toughness in low temperature environments (-10 ℃~-20 ℃), meeting the anti drop requirements of most indoor scenes. However, its impact resistance is slightly lower than that of ABS board, and its toughness will be weakened when exposed to low temperatures for a long time.
Excellent processing and forming performance
Convenient molding: With good melt flowability, it can be processed through conventional processes such as sawing, drilling, bending, vacuum forming, hot pressing, and carving. The molding temperature is low and energy consumption is low, making it suitable for mass production and the production of irregular parts.
Strong secondary processing ability: smooth surface, high glossiness, easy to carry out decorative treatments such as spraying, screen printing, laminating, hot stamping, etc., can quickly achieve diversified appearance effects; Simultaneously supporting solvent bonding and hot air welding, the splicing operation is simple.
Good mold compatibility: stable molding shrinkage rate (about 0.4%~0.7%), good demolding performance, not easy to stick to the mold, can reduce mold loss and production failure rate.
Low cost, outstanding cost-effectiveness
The raw material cost of HIPS is much lower than that of engineering plastics such as ABS and PC. The production process is mature and the processing energy consumption is low, making it an ideal choice to replace ABS in low-cost scenarios. In situations where weather resistance and chemical resistance are not high requirements, basic usage needs can be met at a lower cost.
Good optical and appearance characteristics
The transparency of the base material polystyrene is good, and HIPS board can be made into semi transparent or opaque styles with high surface glossiness and good color uniformity. It can be directly made into boards of different colors through color matching, without the need for complex surface treatment to achieve a beautiful appearance.
Lightweight and basic environmental resistance performance
Low density (about 1.03-1.05g/cm ³), similar to ABS, with obvious advantages in lightweight compared to glass and metal, which can reduce the weight of the product.
At room temperature, it has a certain tolerance to daily media such as water, alcohols, and weak bases, and has excellent electrical insulation performance, which can be used for the production of low-voltage electrical components.
Environmentally friendly and recyclable
